Earlier this week, I was ecstatic to see Pittsburgh named in a list of best cities to eat plant-based. It was only ranked 18th out of 30, but that’s still better than a lot of other places I’ve visited and it’s certainly improved since I made the switch a few years ago.
Whether you’re visiting the City of Steel or looking for more plant-based options, B52 is one of the few restaurants in the area that exclusively makes and serves vegan dishes. Read on to learn more about their delicious and unique menu!
Category: Palestinian-American Fusion
Price Range: $$$$$ (5 $ being most expensive)
Location: Lawrenceville (Pittsburgh, PA)
Who it’s for: Vegans, vegetarians, and the curious looking for a quick meal in a relaxed setting. Their unique burgers, baked goods, and full-service espresso bar are served in a neighborhood full of cute-sy stores, unique artwork, and plenty of other vegan-friendly establishments.
What I’m ordering next: This is a tough one! I love their appetizer plates and soups, but on Wednesdays, it’s burger night and B52 goes all out. Each week they make burgers (minus the beef) that are piled high with custom toppings like vegan beer cheese, onion rings, and more. While I’ve only eaten in the restaurant so far, they also have takeout options.
Why I love it: What’s not to love? With basement-brewed kombucha, and a copper-tiled ceiling, this establishment is both effortlessly Instagram-able and obviously a hidden gem. The wait, even on weekends, is rarely long, and the staff is sweet and accommodating to all patrons. I went with a non-vegan friend and the server spent time explaining how they make their plant-based bacon (hint: shiitake mushrooms are involved).
