Many dairy-free cheese dip recipes use cashews or almond milk, which is a fine alternative but can leave those who have nut allergies or sensitivities out of the fun! I created this recipe, which subs in vegan cheese and soy milk, and actually has the texture of regular melted cheese!
Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 2-5 (depending how snack-y everyone’s feeling!)
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter (Earth Balance is my go-to brand)
- 2 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/3 cup vegan cheese (Follow Your Heart, Daiya, etc.)
- 1/2 cup soy milk (plain)
- 1/4 cup salsa
- 1 tablespoon chili seasoning
- 2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- hot sauce (optional, to taste)
Directions:
- In a pot, melt vegan butter on medium heat.
- Bring heat to low, then stir in soy sauce, vegan cheese, milk, and salsa. Let these ingredients melt gradually, for about 5 minutes
- Stir in chili, turmeric, and nutritional yeast. These seasonings combine to form an unbelievable taste and color that is on par with the famous Mexican cheese dip. If you prefer more heat, add hot sauce.
- Bring out the additional chips, dips– and dig in!
