Buffalo Chickenless Crescent Rolls

Buffalo chicken appetizers are a staple at fall and winter gatherings. Who doesn’t love cheese, hot sauce, and fluffy, pull-apart crescent rolls?

While all the filling ingredients are automatically animal-free, I wanted to mention the crescent rolls themselves. Which crescent rolls are vegan? Many use dairy milk or butter to create that flaky, light texture. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, which can be found in many mainstream grocery stores, use hydrogenated palm oil for the same effect, sans animal product.

Jackfruit Buffalo “Chicken” Croissants

Time: 30 minutes

Serves: 6-8

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 1 powdered ranch packet
  • 1 tablespoon softened vegan butter
  • 2.5 cups of canned jackfruit
  • 1 cup shredded dairy-free cheese (I like to mix cheddar and Monterey Jack flavors, but any kind tastes good)
  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • green onions (optional)

Directions:

  1. Set oven to 375°F. In the meantime, combine hot sauce, ranch flavoring, and vegan butter.
  2. Once smooth, mix in canned jackfruit and diary-free cheese.
  3. Take dough and arrange their triangle bases in a circle on a lined pan. They can also be rolled or folded individually (see pan on left)
  4. Spoon on the jackfruit mixture towards the center of the ring of dough. Top with green onions or more cheese if desired.
  5. Starting at the top of the triangle, roll the dough towards the center. Tuck the end under the ring.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
