Crispy Tofu Nuggets…No Air Fryer Needed

Serves: 5

Ingredients:

  • 1 package extra firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 teaspoon nutritional yeast
  • 2 teaspoon seasoning of choice (I used Ms. Dash salt-free seasoning, but you could also use paprika, ranch, or chili powder)
  • 2 tablespoon flaxseed meal (blended or ground flaxseed)
  • 4.5 tablespoon water
  • (optional) vegan butter)
Kids and adults alike will love these crispy, dip-able nugs. P

Directions:

  1. Set oven to 425°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or reusable cover.
  2. Combine whole wheal flour, vital wheat gluten (the main ingredient in seitan, a versatile and protein-rich #MealPrep staple), nutritional yeast, and seasoning of choice in a medium bowl.
  3. Prepare flax egg (chia is another simple egg replacement) by combining flaxseed meal and water in a small bowl.
  4. While your “egg” set, tear tofu into bite-sized nuggets.
  5. Dredge tofu nugget in “egg” mixture. Then dip and sprinkle it in the powdered mixture.
  6. Once all your nuggets are arranged on a baking sheet, place in the oven for 20-30 minutes. Move them around and brush with butter to get them really crisped up.
